More information about my ways of working, experience, and qualifications.
When you feel there is something out of place in yourself or your life, it’s important you have a therapist who will truly see you, hear you, and seek to understand your circumstances. The therapeutic relationship is a key aspect of therapy, one that offers genuine care, unconditional positive regard and radical acceptance. This, combined with the training a professional therapist receives, can be a wonderful ally for you in times of struggle.
In therapy we will foster a safe, supportive space for you to explore, understand, learn ways to cope with difficulties, heal and grow, and begin to make the changes you want to see in your life. As well as working on the things that are challenging, I also work to highlight your strengths and help you to know yourself and re-engage in things that are important and enjoyable to you.
My specialist interest areas are identity & personality, interpersonal relationships, autism, disability/ illness, anxiety and coping, and historic family issues.
Everyone experiences the world and their problems in a unique way, and my approach as a integrative therapist is to utilise various types of therapy so that the way I am working fits with you. I am not a silent observer but an active participant in the therapeutic process. I know how fundamental it is to your ability to open up and grow that there is a strong therapeutic relationship; you need a therapist you can click with!
I am a member of the British Association for Counselling and Psychotherapy (BACP) and adhere to their Ethical Framework for practice. I am fully insured.
I have trained in a variety of types of counselling including Transactional Analysis (TA), Psychodynamic, Parts Work (IFS), Gestalt, Somatic, Cognitive Behaviour Therapy (CBT), Dialectical Behaviour Therapy (DBT) and Narrative Therapy. I am not trained to offer a full CBT or DBT programme- these techniques are instead part of an integrative approach.
I limit the amount of sessions I do each week so that I am able to provide the best level of attention and energy in each and every session. It’s important to me that I am at my best so I can best support you. I am passionate about therapy and love what I do, I feel very grateful to be here to help! In sessions I bring all of my attention and focus to my client; listening deeply and sitting alongside you as we unpack the difficulties you are experiencing
Regular Check-ins
I make sure to check in with you on how you feel therapy is going, and to bring the processes of therapy into the room. One of my roles is to challenge some of your ways of thinking that may be harmful to you, to make way for understanding and positive change. I know that it takes a lot of courage to engage in therapy I do not take that for granted. I am an avid reader and will regularly familiarise myself with literature that will help me support you individually, I will also keep myself familiar with your progress so we can check in together and remind you of your strengths, goals, and areas you expressed a need to touch on during the therapeutic journey. I encourage and value your thoughts and ideas about the therapeutic process.
